In the game, my headphones work rather well now (a lot better sound, than the onboard audio from mb specs below) I bought the SB live 5.1 card, but still cant get the mic to work in the game. I have cable connection and the onboard LAN works rather well so I dont have anything but it plugged into the PCI slots. I plugged the live 5.1 into the 2nd up from the bottom (slot). Has anyone run into (and solved) a problem like this? I have checked the windows settings (mic is active and works in the voice test), disabled the onboard audio in the bios, and I have tried running the "voice_tweak" in CS, it gives me an error of "cant load voice_codec in ***.dll" or something like that. Please help.

Thanks,

Bill

I never could get a mic to work in games on a creative product. Tried forever in Rainbow 6, CS, and Delta Force. Never worked...

i never had problems getting my mic to work in halflife with my old sblive. did you patch halflife after you installed it? try reinstaling halflife and then patching it. get the latest card drivers too.

Ok,

If the soundblaster cards aren't right for gaming what other cards are out there that give good performance. Gaming is the main concern, everything else will just have to fall into place

Have you actually contacted Creative about this problem? I've never seen nor heard of a problem of the SB 5.1 having a problem in counter-strike with the mic. In fact, my friends and I play all the time with it...So I think replacing the card is a very extreme measure to take.

I have contacted creative on this and they say it is a game problem. I had an older (ISA slot) awe 16?? soundblaster and it would do the same thing. I dont want to replace the card (I just bought it). I have replaced everything else in computer. i.e.: ECS mobo, AMD 1700+, gf3 64ddr agp, 512ddr, new case, 400w pwr supply, new hard drive, winME (complete install, no upgrades, they usually have problems). It was time to upgrade anyways, my old system (amd700, no ddr,16m PCI vid card, etc) was outdated and I needed (wanted? heh) a fresh comp. but the game still sounds choppy.

That's creative's "creative" tech support for you. If you just bought it I'd try to return it as defective (as it can't play sounds correctly though I'm not familiar with counterstrike so it might actually be a problem with the game, maybe fatburger or will might know).
