In many cases (especially on laptops), you should not need any additional
software to transfer files etc via the IR port, you may just need the
correct drivers for your port and to have it enabled. What exactly are you
trying to do via the IR?

Is there any indication on the computer that it can "see" the Z1010? Is the
file transfer starting at all?

Do you have a friend with mobile that has IR? You could use this to check
the port on the phone is functioning correctly....
