labtop hot swap drives

Well hopefully someone can help me got a labtop the other day from a friend i wanted to put a clean install of win98 on it so i formatted the hd
its a compaq LTE5280 the swappable flopy and cdrom , my problem is that when i run a 98 boot disk it wont install the cdrom drivers because its not in , the floppy is i dont have a extrenal cdrom ,is there a disk or somthing i can do any info would be gladly appreacaited. my email is dolfan34@hotmail.com

I dont know a lot about laptops so this may not help, but if you can boot off a CD, I think the win98 cd is bootable and just acts the same as the boot floppy. The win98se cd is bootable definately and i think the normal win98 cd is too.

Yes good idea.

If you can't find a bootable cd, you can burn one using the 98 startup floppy. If that don't work you can copy the floppy to the hd and boot from the hd.
