I am planning to buy 2 harddrives for my IDE raid0. Would I have better performance using 2 20GB 7200rpm disks instead of 2 80GB 7200rpm disks? I am leaning towards 2 20GB disks... assuming that a smaller disk takes less time to search for data, when the drive is 50% capacity.

the 80 gb drive more than likely have a much higher tranfer rate... go with the bigger drives.. plus some the new bigger drives make less noise (depnd on wich ones ya get. plus you can pay 69 for a 20 GB or bout 99 for a 60 gb. You get more bang for your buck buying larger drives. on the other hand if you need that much storeage and allredy have one 20 gb then it's would be acceptable to buy just anther 20 gb. when you up grade you must think ahead what might i need in the future?? it can save you a bundle in the long run....

What if I go with 2 80GBs, but only have a 20GB partition on each drive? Let's assume that all drives are at 50% capacity. Would the performance increase when searching a 20GB partition verses a 80GB partition... granted the drive is an 80GB harddrive.
