Hey guys,
This might seem like a dumb question, but I'm planning to upgrade, and I've not paid attention to all the hardware etc. in the last months, and this CL2.0, PC2700, DDR333 stuff is new to me.
Could someone please explain the difference between all these, like what's the difference between PC2700 and DDR333 (which should I get?) I've read the review here on memory, but it doesn't explain to much besides the Cl2.0 question.
I'm planning to get a Epox EP-8K3A+ board + XP1800, any suggestions for memory in terms of speed and brand?
thanx in advance

Apparently you didn't even bother to see the very first attention catching thread, locked on this page, the RAM FAQ. Go there and you should have all the answers.

Righty...oops...and I always try to look around to see if I can find the anwer without posting....
But still, I don't know now which to get when I'm getting this Epox board and a XP2000 (I decided to get 2000 instead of the 1800 I menstioned in my last post).
I just read however, that this board only suppoorts PC2100 memory, so getting PC3200 is useless?

PC3200 won't be "useless" - it will run fine at PC2100 and will be a better shot at overclocking.

LHGPoobaa was planning to get this board, as it was said to be easy to get it at 166MHZ FSB and 166MHZ DDR, so I am guessing you can up it further to 200MHZ DDR. Experiment to see.

LHGPooBaa actually did get it and raised it to 166MHz FSB. However, the Epox board doesn't support 1/6 PCI divider, so getting to 200MHz will be harder.

So, if I'd get PC3200, it would be more an investment for a future board, unless I overclock; but would I be able to tweak it as far, so that I could have full use of the PC3200, or that to much to ask from either the board or the XP2000?
And secondly, is there a board on the market at all that supports PC3200?

I don't know of any that do. It's all done by personal user tweaking.
I do however know that AMD is not going to go for DDR400 so far on Hammer, so that means that you'd best buy PC2700 quality RAM, and stick with it for future use, as it seems to be AMD's new standard soon. I do hope it would've gone for DDR400 and 400MHZ FSB, but I don't see it yet.

OK, interesting. I mean, if AMD's working on a standard, then why not go for the fastest available at the time...oh well.
I guess, I'll go for the PC2700 then, and tweak the board a bit to see how much use I can get out of the extra 600.
Thanx guys!

I just bought the Epox anyway with the XP1800 after all. And as it turns out the EP-8K3A+ supports up to PC2700. I was pretty amazed myself, but apparently the guy in the other thread was wrong on the epox only supporting up to 2100. I thought I'd clear that up.
