My primary DNS all of a sudden "disconnected" itself. I have tried flushing DNS and powering off the modem and turning it back on again after 10 seconds. It seems that these methods are not working. I need something to help me to connect to my primary DNS. I currently am using my phone for internet access.

Steve Gibson's DNS benchmarking tool is very well done. Not only should you be able to get a working DNS server, but it should also be a faster one than what you were using. I've used it on numerous occasions for both myself, and people i've built and/or repaired systems for. Use Google's servers for now to get yourself up and running again as nhasian suggested, but I would give the benchmarking tool a serious look. It can make quite a noticeable difference.

is there some sort of forum or tutorial on setting my primary dns server to googles? im not good with networking

follow the link i gave you in my previous post. Google gives you step by step instructions on how to do it.

If you watch a lot of netflix, hulu, and such, switching your DNS from your ISP's DNS servers isn't always best. CDN's use dns servers to find your geographic location. OpenDNS, Google DNS, and other's make it look like you are geographically located elsewhere. This can cause slowdowns. I had this problem a couple years ago with netflix when I switched to OpenDNS. Once I switched back to my ISP's (time-warner) DNS, the issues went away.

At it’s simplest, the DNS server does a geographic lookup based on the DNS resolver’s IP address and then returns an IP address for an edge server that is physically closest to that area.
