I've heard of this but have never tried it as I'm not quite sure how it works...
So here are my questions I wanted to ask:
Do you need special hardrives to do hot swap?
Do you have to have a special chasis or kit to do it?
Does it have to part of the array in a RAID setup or can it be used as just a hardrive on it's own?
Is there software that will automatically turn removable hardrive kits into hot swap?
You can hot swap any IDE drive in any tray, as long as you use an identicle drive to replace it, and the drive is not being accessed at the time of swap. All you need to do is set it as removable in device manager.
Yes, but if you don't have your OS setup for the drive to be removable, then you should only swap while the computer is off. Though I've never tried it without having it setup as a swappable...hmmm...maybe...nah, don't wanna toast my beauties. Maybe if I get ahold of another 2 giger, I'll test the bstard.
Oh, and if you do it with a different type of hard drive, you'll need to be sure your BIOS isn't set up for just that drive, have it on AUTO for you corresponding IDE channel.
While wearing syran-wrap speedos, my shrink had the nerve to tell me "I can cleary see yer nuts!"
