I got the A7v333(asus)mainboard. Ever since I got faster ram(333mhz)installed it has trouble with startup. The screen will flicker as soon as WINXP launches and I will have to start anew. My ram is Apacer and I got 1333mhz athlon xp. I set the clock to 8/166 the only way to set the rambus to 166. It is also the only MB that you cannot actually change the rambus only(As if I set my clock to 10/133 and the rambus to 166. I have even updated my bios.I do not understand what the problem is and the MB is made for pc2700 ram.

What are timings (CAS latency) of your memory?. I think your RAM is CAS 2.5 at 166 MHz and you have the motherboard set at CAS 2.

errr, if im reading this correctly your increasing the FSB right?
you shouldnt need to do that, at least initially. (good for overclocking though)

there should be some option in the memory setting that allows you to run at 166 with the fsb at 133.

its also a good idea to thouroughly test your ram with it running at 166mhz.

i suggest MEMTEST86. a free program found online.

I cannot change it cause it seems to be locked. Actually it startet to work but it says the frontsidebus is set to 333mhz, but I do not believe it. I ask a new question:
How do you you unlock the ram to 166( it is set to 133)?

hmmm
best if you read your motherboard manual.

with my bios there are two different sections.
the first is for the multiplier and system bus speed, ranging from 100 to 250.
in the memory area you can choose what speed the ram runs at, depending on what the system bus is set to:
i.e.
100fsb - 100,133 or 166 ram
133fsb - 133 or 166 ram
166fsb - 166 ram

some bios'es report the ram speed differently, usually as 133+33 or something like that.
but unless your overclocking and lowering the multiplier accordingly 166fsb shouldnt be used.

I guess you do not have to buy pc 2700ram It is a waste of money you can not set it to 333mhz without setting the fsb to 333mhz as well, even though fsb only runs 266. When I set my fontsidebus to 133 you can not set the ram to 166 only 133.There jusy is no "or"

thats wierd!
if it doesnt have the 333 or 166 or +33mhz ram option then its just a KT266A!

PC2700 does make a small difference, lowering memory latencies, but really the extra bandwidth is being wasted. so it IS a bit of a con-job.

In BIOS (Advance menu) has an option FSB:MEM. Change it from 1:1 to 4:5 so you can run your memory at 166MHz but FSB stays at 133MHz.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

You know I tried that but nothing happened. The ram ran at 266mhz. Maybe I have been cheated with ram since nothing happens, could that be possible that if I got pc2100 that it wont go at 333. Maybe I am just overreacting. It is just
that my old(hynix)scores better in benchmark.

I got it right now. It was Sissoft2002 sandra that read wrong. They say in their erratta that the program cannot read the new kt333.In my benchmark I scored 300 points more
than Dragon and 200 more than Aopen. I am really glad I found out cause I am really pleased with this motherboard.
And you set it to 4:5. Life is good and then you die.
