Hi:

I'm new here. I use an Adcom amp (GFA 5200) and tuner/preamp
(GTP-350)combination, along with a Rotel CD player and Klipsch
speakers.

I've recently had problems with harsh left channel noise when moving
the volume knob on the preamp, but everything else has worked fine.

Unfortunately, in the middle of a CD, my system just went silent. All
the components light up, and the fuses in the amp and preamp seem ok.
The speakers don't have external fuses. I get no sound from either the
tuner or CD player. Can anyone tell me where the problem might be?

Thanks!
Charlie

Based on your description, a preamp failure seems likely. If you have
any test equipment (say a voltmeter) try to measure any AC output from
the preamp line out to "amp in" plugs. If there is output, the amp is
bad. If no output, that more or less confirms a bad preamp, but check
the continuity of the preamp to amp cables.

Thanks Robert:

I'll borrow a voltmeter, and give that a try.
