Serious problem with my IBM winchester!!

I have two harddisk a 40 GB IBM and Quantum 2Gb. I had Windows XP on the IBM... one day the computer freeze and when i restart it said that "I/O error change the disk and restart your computer". The bios detect both drives, when i boot from floppy i can see my partitions contain... except the first partition on the IBM. I have all of my personal data and documentums on this partition... what can i do?? when i type the word "dir" the partition contains special caracters... and my computer freeze... i can't run scandisk on this partition.... WHAT CAN I DO??? I WANT TO SAVE MY DATA!! Please help!!!

Hmmm, so where's the winchester? I had a 40mb Winchester interface drive on an 8088 once. I think it used 2 data cables.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?
