LOST ALL MY ITEMS ON THE TASKBAR

Hello,
I LOST ALL MY ITEMS ON THE TASKBAR.
I'm talking about when you have programs running & you go to the taskbar to pick one to switch between programs. Weather I have 1 or 5 or 6 running, I can't see them on the task bar. So I have to hit ALT-TAB to select a different one?
Please help. This is annoying.

have you tried restarting the computer?

yes, that didn't work but I found a fix on another site. Start Task manager, close the explorer then restart it. That worked for me. Thanks for the assistance though.
