Using two modem/router units

How do I configure my modem/router to work with U-verse modem/router?

I have to use the 2Wire3600HGV as the modem with ATT U-verse. FYI--internet service only. I have a SBG6580 that I would like to use as a router.

I'm trying to make a little network for all the devices in the home (TV, smart phones, shared hard drive, ebook reader, PCs, etc. I really like the Motorola interface and controls. I'd like it to be independent of the 2Wire and access to the internet, but allow internet traffic using the 2Wire modem. U-verse gets flaky when it rains and there is high humidity and likes to reset. I want my devices and their traffic to be unaffected by this, except for internet service of course.

1. Is this possible?
2. Is it possible for the 1)the 2Wire to be modem and router and 2)the Motorola be a wireless network and go through the 2Wire for internet access?
3. If this connectivity is possible, can the 2Wire and Motorola be linked wireless? (not a problem if they can't, but it will eliminate another wire)

And last...
Detailed instructions on setup/configuration?
