I recently got a new WinXP sytem with an SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio (D8CO)
sound card. When I listen to mp3's playing on WinAmp and e-mail
arrives, the e-mail notification sound can be heard right through the
music.

How can I change it so that the e-mail sound is not audible when mp3's
are playing back?

Thanks very much for all suggestions.

You didn't tell us what program you are using for email, and that makes a
difference.

If you are using Outlook Express, select Tools, Options, and then
click the General tab.

Unclick "play sound when new messages arrive."

Good luck !!

One way to do this is to spec a midi for the email alert, then
adjust or mute midi volume in the Creative equalizer.

You can disable that specific sound as James suggested, or
you can disable *all* the sounds with the "Sounds and Audio
devices Properties" You can change the Sound Scheme to
"No Sounds".

I don't know of an automatic way to mute this sound only when audio is
playing. It can, of course, be switched off manually in your mail
program. Or globally in Control Panel/Sounds.

As I find the system sounds uniformly annoying, I have set up a Sounds
profile with all events set to "none" except the Startup and Shutdown
sounds. I find these useful just to check my sound system is working.
