I was given a complete Kenwood Stereo system... Kenwood KT-594; KX - W
894; DP - r894; KA 894 and two huge speakers. The only things not
included with the system were the wires to hook the components together
and the instructions to do so. I admit that I am very stereo
illiterate. Can anybody please give me a clue as to what kind of
hookups I need to buy and what I attach to where. Thank you.

Google on the models (eg. KX-W894) to find individual manuals

The link to the reciever (service/user) manual is below

It usually shows how and where to connect typical components. There
are only a few ways to hook up consumer Audio components. Devices that
Record as well as play are slightly more complicated (and almost
always connect to the Tape IN and OUT jacks (even if it was a DIGITAL
recorder).

everything connects to that.
Mostly you want standard Stereo RCA cables (red and whit plugs, but
the color is for YOU to make it easy to keep Left and right staight).
Don't let the snake-oil salesmen *SELL* you fancy tripple gold plated,
super deluxe cables. Radio Shack cables work just fine for typical
consumer systems.

You can pay big $$ for Monster cable or go to Home Depot and buy 14Ga
or 12GA Low Voltage Yard lighting cable for under $50 a HUNDRED FEET.
One edge has a rib, I always connect that wire to the Black terminal
of the Speaker and Amp. It really does not matter, as long as ALL
connections use the same rule to get PHASEING of speakers correct.
