Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to take a WAV file and create a very
basic codec, even if it just reduced the file size by 50%.

Would you have to write your own player or is there anything out there
which would play the file if given header information etc.

Also, does anyone know any good sites regarding the standard audio and
audiovisual codec's with regard to how they work in a fair amount of
detail, comparisons between different ones etc.

Basically I can program quite well but am not much up to speed with
codec's etc so I just want to be able to write one for WAV files
initially. I'm not bothered about the compression ratio initially.
