P910i handsfree question

I was using the earphones that came with the phone to listen to some
music and realised that when it is connected it routes all the sound
(including the ringtone) to the earpiece. I missed several calls
because I didn't unlpug the cable, just stuffed it in my pocket assuming
it'd ring normally like a normal hands free cable I would use in the car.

Is there anyway round this - or is there a different sort of cable for
normal "hands free use" does anyone know?
