I have a built in network controller on my motherboard and a separate wireless adapter in a PCIe slot. My current network is set up this way:
Cable Modem => TrendNet N Wireless Router => Wireless to computer (at other part of building)
I want to add a NAS (Synology 209) for backup and I would like it wired to the computer since wireless would be too slow. I have a relatively new 4 port gigabit switch, can I link the NAS to the computer through the switch? If so, do I set it up on a different IP configuration than the wireless network?
the answer to both questions is Yes
Use a static IPs but make sure you don't assign a gateway to the LAN card on you computer
