Help needed for Tuner issue, Technics SA-828: The FM tuner section will
tune ok and signal strength is ok, but Quartz lock light flashes and
auto-muting alternates between on/off. If I turn off muting to no
muting with Mono, works ok, but of course there's no Stereo. What
should I check? Antenna is fine. Thanks in advance.

VCO adjustment. Possibly the discriminator should be adjusted as well, but
that part is best done in a shop. If you can find the VCO adjustment
potentiometer in the MPX section, just tweak it back and forthe til the
stereo indicator lights reliably. When it does, you're done.

As I said, the discriminator may also need adjustment, but that really
requires a service manual and a decent DC voltmeter.

That helped on a few stations, but not others. 90.1 Classical PBS
station is fine. Nearby Christian station at 89.7, still has the
problem. 103.5 Classic Rock and 104.3 Jazz work intermittantly. Perhaps
an alignment at a shop would be in order. Other than that, it plays
great.
