U can use Avast along with Malwarebytes and Comodo Firewall that is free, but got great results in defending your PC. And u can configure it to your satisfaction with ease.

Vipre antivirus with build-in firewall. Used alot of anti-virus programs. Think this is one of the best payed and not affecting pc performance much. Using it for almost one year now never had any bad program/virus on my pc.

I experienced Avira as a solid free antivirus program.

i use Avast free along with everyone in the household. I've never had it let in anything in (whereas Mcafee did) it has lots of features and is amazing for free!

hey all, yea i have used lots of free antivirus and have never been infected. trying out the new version of ad aware free antivirus+ and so far i like it. seems to do ok with superantispyware. poorguy

Mixture of FreeAVG and MSE.

Only two known infections in the last three years. Those were on my dedicated torrent box. I figure that they were more the fault of the torrent client than the free antivirus.
