Im looking for a portable MP3 player (im liking the Creative 30GB Jukebox).
Is there a car stereo rig that interfaces to these portable players or comes
with companion portable player?
Or do the car stereos just have an input you can plug the MP3 player into?

Same solutions as were used for CD players before those were built into
cars: an adapter that plugs into the cassette slot (though I have
friends who swear such adapters have damaged their cassette players), or
a small FM transmitter which couples to your radio, or -- if you want to
pay the surcharge -- some car stereos actually have a Line In connection
which can accept output from the MP3 player's Line Out or the headphone
output.
Some car CD players now play MP3 CDs, for whatever that's worth.

FM transmitter that plugs into the player; tune your car radio to the
appropriate frequency.
Old-fashioned cassette adapter, if your car stereo has a cassette deck.

Some do. Some also have an extra set of "AUX" input RCA jacks on the
back that you can run an RCA-to-mini-stereo-plug cable to (like my wife
does with her iPod in her van). If the deck doesn't have such inputs,
you could possibly add an outboard EQ/booster that has the inputs.

You can also get a car deck that will play MP3s and off optical disc,
such as CD-R. This includes most new in-dash DVD decks, which will play
MP3s off a DVD-R (800-1000 songs).
A few also allow you to plug in flash-memory cards (CF, SD, etc.) and
play MP3s off those - if your portable player uses cards, you might find
a deck that supports the same card.
And there's always Sony MiniDisc - the new formats hold a lot more
music, and there are both portable and in-dash players available.
Just out of curiosity, have you looked at iPod? My wife recently went
shopping for an MP3 player and ended up with the iPod Mini 6GB - for any
given amount of storage, it was actually cheaper than any of the other
options, and it's way more solid (aluminum-cased), cleaner display, and
more efficient operation (everything in one simple "dial" control rather
than assorted tiny buttons scattered all over the player) than anything
else we tried.
thanks for that. I got the Creative Zen, 20Gigabyte of storage for $180.
Works great. sounds great. nice user interface. I got a little FM deal to
try it on the car radio. If I get into it I may get a new car deck with aux
input as you mention.
thanks
