I know most people on these boards build their own comp, but does anyone have an opinion on Sony Vaio desktops? I am looking at an XP1800, 60gb hd, 24X10X40 cdrw, 16X dvd, 512 ddr pc2100, onboard sound and video for about 1000 bucks. Not too bad compared to some prices I have seen. I was wondering about their support and general quality of product. I wouldn't mind building my own computer but I would be basically starting from scratch and this is just plain easier, if it is worth it. Or any other suggestions for relatively cheap pc comparble to this?
I have great experience with SONY PC. I have brought 1 for myself 4 years ago and it is still working. 4 of my relative also have SONY PCs. They all have good quality.
Why don't you bring the specs of that model to a local computer shop and tell them to make you something almost exactly the same? Chances are, you may get a better deal.

I do not think you can have a better deal by asking a local shop to built the system for you. I tried a few local shop before. Most of them do no have some of the components I want and they sell the components more expensive than I can get from Internet.
Actually I was looking at Accessmicro.com and put together a comparable system with XP 1900+, Abit KR7A 266mhz fsb, WD 80GB 7200 HD, Gforce 4ti4200, SB Audigy XGamer/Platinum, 16x dvd rom, 32x12x40(I think it was) cdrw, nic, winxp home, 512 kingston ddr 2100 cl2.5, keyboard, mouse included for about the same price (slightly more for the Audigy Platinum) ~$1100. Haven't actually ordered it yet though.
I have had the same experience at a local shop. They only carried one type of mobo and don't have the components I wanted. They could have ordered it and I am sure that would have been pretty expensive judging by the prices they were charging for the stuff they normally carry. And don't get me started on the prices at CompUSA...
I had a good experience with newegg. Ordered a 128mb compact flash which was bad when I received it and they replaced it no questions asked. Just had to pay to ship it back.
