I just bought one of these recorders second hand. The unit works ok but
after I finish recording and finalise the cd, it wont play in any other
cd players, just in this machine. I'am using CD-R "audio" discs. I dont
have a user manual for it so I could be operating it wrongly. Any help
would be great.

Sounds as if your recorded disc is not actually finalized.

Not sure - I've seen some models where you had to hit the "finalize" button
twice.
If it's finalizing, there will be some kind of countdown timer on the
display, 'cause it takes a couple minutes to finalize.

On my Philips, you press Finalize, then Record
It takes two minutes, there's a countdown
