I have the opportunity to buy a Fostex 820 mixer (20ch, 8-bus). I don't know
what kind of offer to make. Its from a high school that I used to go to so I
know the person I'm buying it off of. They want to sell it because nobody
uses it since I left the high school. A couple pots are dirty and at one
point mice were living in the mixer, but they sent it away to get cleaned
and repaired since then. I have used it since then it works well enough for
what I would be using it for.

Another thing is that there's an 8-track reel-to-reel tape deck, a Fostex R8
that I want to make an offer on. One of the capstans has stopped working for
an unknown reason. Taking it apart, I'd probably be able to fix it myself.
What should I offer on this?

Thanks,
Kevin McHale

sold at online auctions

mouse urine is very hard on electronics. this should devalue the mixer by at
least 50%.

you sure you didn't go to my school? they have that there although since
i left i doubt it even gets switched on, such a shame really as there were
alot of kids interested in studio stuff when i was there but aparantly that
seems less so now. (some years back of course)

sadly i can't put a value on it. the mice will not have helped even if its
cleaned and working it still wont help things (but that could be a bonus to
you of course)

Every secound that passes, these 2 peices are worth less. Even though the
mixer may work well, the tape machine has the extra problem of the tape
being end of lifed.
Honestly, $50 for both.

Thanks. The teacher offering these asked me to find some prices on the
internet and since I couldn't find any, the newsgroup seemed like a great
place to use as a sounding board (excuse the pun). I just need a few more
replies and I'll make an offer.
