I have decided to (lossless) rip all my CDs with EAC and FLAC. I did
some research and came up with what I believe are the settings that
will give me the best possible results. Nevertheless, I am a novice
with these programs so before I start my big rip job I would like to
have some input from you guys. The settings for FLAC are:

I just got done ripping my CD collection with EAC and FLAC. I tried using
-8 to get the highest compression. I found this took much longer than the
default (equivalent to -5), maybe four times as long (I don't remember the
exact amount). I did some tests of file size with the default and -8, and
found that the files were typically 0.2 percent smaller with -8 than with
the default. I ended up using the default, since 0.2 percent seemed like a
negligible gain for the large increase in time it took to encode them. You
might try a similar experiment and see what you come up with.
