I have a problem with my floppy drive. The light on it is always on and it will not read or write. Everything seems normal in bios dont see anything wrong there. I checked the cable connections everything seems ok there too. I even tried a different floppy and the same thing happens the floppy's light is always on from the moment I turn on the computer, and I get a floppy disk failure message (40). I just put this computer together this week and its been like this from the begining. I have a abitkr7a133r mobo I dont know if that matters. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Any input would be great. Thanks guys.

Make sure the power connector is on correctly, and that the flat cable pin #1 is matched with pin #1 on the floppy disk drive.

Make sure the cable isn't backwards.

If the light is staying on the cable is reversed, the end with the ribbon twist always goes to the floppy, if that is right make sure the motherboard end of the cable is definitely red stripe to pin 1 if that is correct at the floppy flip the cable over and plug it back in, and fire it up.

This happens a lot, the floppy usually isn't labled for pin 1 and it just so happens that the cable fits the floppy with the stripe facing into the case, while IDE drives have the stipe facing outward of the case (assuming you have a standard tower case).

What's the frequency, Kenneth?
