pioneer dbr-s210i firmware update

I tried to update my dec firmware connecting parallel and serial port to pc
and entering service mode via k2002.
I tried with desktop pc (win 98se) and with laptop (Win XP) but couldn't
reach decoder using pionero v. 4.0.
Error msg was that prog couldn't open lpt1.
Does it depend on parallel cable?
I seems to me that it's a pin to pin cable...maybe it's a cross cable to
connect pc to pc and I do need a direct one instead?
How can I tell one from the other?
Please help me
