A new t237 owner was asking me how he could get midi files from his pc
into his phone. He also would like to find a source for some free
games -
maybe a solitaire.

He's never had a cell phone (nor have I) so I'm uncertain how to help
him.

He's using Cingular service, if that helps.

Anyone know if there are online instructions? I tried the web site for
the phone, but kept getting server 404 errors.

Hello,

There are two ways of getting stuff like games onto the phone.

1) Your friend can use the phone to connect to the web and download
stuff(which may require some intimate reading of the user manual), and *WILL
DEFINTELY* cost you money.

2) If your friend purchased a data-cable(about 10-13 bucks) then the cost of
using the web, and downloading stuff is eliminated. You can transfer stuff
all the time whenever you want etc, and it will only cost you *ONCE* the
cost of the cable. A data cable I find is much easier as all you have to do
is install some software on your friends computer, and a small folder called
"My Phones" will apear on the Windows Desktop. Plug the phone into the
computer using the data cable. Then all that needs to be done is drag and
drop whatever music or game files you want into the phone.

I myself have a SE T637. I like the software. Very easy to use I find.

Hope it helps.

Let me know if anything.

If you get errors with www.sonyericsson.com at the moment then the problem
is likely at your end

I just got my T237 on Monday (I know a lot of people aren't
impressed with it, but I haven't had any problems with it in my area
yet), and have been searching the Internet for information on this
thing, specifically the ringtone format and how to get ringtones into
the phone. But I can't find _any_ info on two simple (or at least I
_thought_ they would be simple) questions:

1) What format are the polyphonic ringtones in? Are they straight MIDI
files, or something more propriatary? I know there are converter
programs out there, but if you don't know the format the phone
requires, they tend to be useless...

2) Assuming I have the correct format file, how can I transfer into
the phone _without_ a data cable? Can I use simple HTTP on my
company's server? Or do I need to research and learn the WAP subset
and use it?

If anyone knows of a FAQ anywhere on the web regarding the T237 (or
T230 series) and ringtones, a pointer would be _greatly_ appreciated -
there's this silly little CTU ringtone (from the TV series "24" ) I am
dying to use... (If there isn't one, and I can figure this all out,
I'll write the thing to save the next guy the trouble.)

Yeah, that option is looking better and better, frankly, but instead
of running out and buying one right away I'd like to figure out how to
transfer from the server I control first.

Much thanks in advance for any replies...
