I have this problem: There is a room where events take place. About
18x10 meters, 3.5 high. Partially mikes are used, partially normal
speech without mikes (!). Next door theres a small room with computer.
I want to install mikes at the ceiling, send the signal wireless to
the computer room and so record the event. To make it even worse, I
don't have thousands of dollars/ euro. (but max. about 300)
So: any ideas? what type of mike? what company? how much? possible at
all to get the not-amplified spoken word in the described room? [low
level would be okay: once recorded, i could amplify it by processing.
also, the purpose is only to later transcribe the spoken content -
i.e. I do not need to get good sound! "Understanding what was said" is
totally enough]. what kind/ company for the wireless transmission?
etc.
thanx a lot for each hint!
Daniel
ps any other newsgroups i could ask this question?
pps if some german/ berlin people here: any vendor etc. tips?

Ha! I note the writer was using a German university address; if the rooms
are in the university, a proposal to drill a hole will require an
engineering survey and a risk assessment... I kid you not ... :-)

If a listener in the room can hear everything adequately, so will a
mic. Make a test recording with any available mic sited in a
convenient position. The ceiling, if you must. But on the wall
near the door to your computer room would seem more sensible. You
could even mount a walkman-sized portable recorder. How's the
recording? Intelligible? If not, are audience members located in
this area? You need to sort out the room's pa system first, don't
you :-)
