Hey y'all, the clear plastic lid (??) on an old JVC
turntable I am restoring is scratched in places. Any
one got a suggestions for something with which to
polish the plastic?? I've tried McGuires polish for
plastic convertible winddows with little success.

I have used it with good results on a Thorens dustcover. Be warned, You
will need to spend a lot of time on the first step to polish out deep
scratches.

Depends on the scratch. I've used Novus polish on acrylic (plexi) plastic.
Most turntable covers are clear or smoked color Styrene. Styrene is a softer
plastic than acrylic and it scratches easier. I'm not sure how well the
polishes work on it. If the scratch is heavy enough that the polish won't
remove it, you have to start by wet sanding with very fine paper then
restoring the surface with the polish. Be warned that since you are removing
material around the scratch so it is even with the bottom of the scratch,
You now will have a lens effect that may distort the view through the
material.

Another is 'Brasso', as above it also takes time and effort to polish out
the deeper scratches.
