It seems like my current turntable cartridge is wearing out, and it's been
a long time since it was current (Shure V15, type IV). The turntable is a
Rega Planar 3 (fairly old, but with an RB300 arm), and the cartidges I'm
looking at are primarily the Goldring 1006 and the Rega super bias. Any
opinions on either one, or good alternatives for the same or less money?
Also, I have a much older Rega table, with the S-shaped tonearm. The problem
though, is that there's a break in the wires leading to the RCA plugs. Does
anyone know where I can get a replacement 5-pin soldered plug that I can
build new interconnects from, without getting into audiophilia silliness?

**Hang on to your Shure. Fit it up with a MR stylus and you have one Hell of
a decent cartridge. If you don't sell it, send it to me. I'll buy it.

**I rather like the audiophile "silly" wires from Van Den Hul. Fairly
expensive, but immensely strong and utterly reliable, PTFE insulated and
pure silver.

Trevor,
Will a V15 V MR stylus fit/work in a V15 IV body?
Thanks
Peter

That's the stylus I've got on it now (VN45MR), and it's very nice--but
wearing out. That stylus appears to no longer be available from anywhere,
though. The stylus replacement specialists now only have thier 'house-brand'
versions of the HE stylus, and are generally asking far more than it's worth.

Ah, but that's the tonearm wires themselves--I need the cable from the
base of the tonearm to the plugs, and I'd really rather not have to rewire
the arm.

Try Jerry Raskin's "The Needle Doctor" in the States. He has always had a
large inventory of genuine Shure stylii in stock.
