Why wont my network security key work

I have two laptops,1 running vista other running Windows 7 they both work fine on wireless network.I am trying to set up a pc running xp and it asks for network key i put in same password as for other comps and it says it should be 5 to 10 characters or 10 to 26 characters,my password is 8...Why wont it it except the same password as the other computers?? I have belkin router and can get into router using a code in search bar to read security codes but also can not get into router using the pc

Which service pack does your XP machine use?

XP SP1 does not support WPA2 and needs a patch to support WPA. SP2 supports WPA but needs a patch to support WPA2. SP3 supports either without any patch.

I will have a look what service pack i am running,where do i get the patches from?Thanks for your advice/help.

Just install SP3 , It has all the fixes for wireless security encryption.
