What is the best RAID controller out there? What is the best priced card on the market?
The best IDE RAID controller out there at the moment is the 3ware 7850. But this is only for those with a couple of thousand euros to spare and a need for 8 hard disks in a RAID-5 configuration. If you want a comparison of high end RAID controllers check the review at xbit labs.

Assuming therefore you are not wanting eight disks in a hardware RAID-5 setup and probably just want an IDE RAID-0 configuration you would be best to go for either of the new controllers from Highpoint (review)or Promise. Adaptec IDE RAID cards are more expensive and do not perform better than the Highpoint or Promise, they also do not have 66MHz PCI support at the moment.
Alternatively if you have an eye to the future, get a serial IDE RAID card for even better performance when serial ATA HD become available.
