Howdy,
I have an old Onkyo A-8170 stereo integrated amp which still
sounded great until it started blowing fuses. The fuse blows
every time I put in a new one, in every input selector position
I tried. There are no components that look obviously fried.
Is anyone familiar with repairing this model or have any suggestions,
besides take it to a repair shop? Does anyone know where one can get
a repair manual for this unit?
Thanks a bunch in advance.

Options besides taking it to a repair shop are probably limited. Are you
technically competent? Can you use a multimeter, have some basic knowledge
of electronics and are able to solder in the necessary new parts? The most
likely thing is a "blown amp channel" but anything seriously shorted will
blow the fuse, such as a shorted filter capacitor or bridge rectifier. Onkyo
may not have the service manual anymore, but an authorized Onkyo servicer
can download the PDF.
Mark,
I can solder & use a meter but without knowing what readings to look
for I'm kinda stuck. I think I'll get a service manual on-line then
take it to a repair shop if I can't figure it out from there.
Thanks.
