I bought a set of Creative DTT2200 5.1 speakers a while back along with a Live! player 5.1 sound card. The speakers are good but I dont really have ne use for the center speaker as I dont have a DVD player on my computer. I think the quality of the speakers is quite good but I really want to get a more powerfull set of speakers that will have excellent quality as I play a lot of MP3's and CD's on my computer and dont own a Hi-Fi.

I was just wondering if it was worth spending £200+ on a new set of speakers, will I notice a big difference in quality if I were to buy the Altec Lansing 641? Should I keep my SB live or will I see a quality difference if I get the audigy?

Best bet is to buy a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Herculees GTXP since your so into mp3's and CD's. Get that or an audigy and a Set of Klipsh Pro media or Creative Megaworks 510D speakers. There'll be a gigantic difference.

If you listen to CD and mp3 a lot Philips Acoustic Edge will be a much better choice than Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Herculees GTXP. Philips Acoustic Edge sounds a lot better than Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Herculees GTXP.

I tried both Philips Acoustic Edge and Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Philips Acoustic Edge is definitely better for music.

You only need to say it once.

When did you listen to the Santa Cruz and GTXP. Same speakers as with the AE, I assume?

Why you always repeat your opinions and I should only say my opinions once?

you could have posted your 5 posts in 2 posts to condense it and make it easier to read is what he's sayin.

Btw, to be fair, i have read many people on the 3dss forums who are far more experienced in sound than I say that there is no almost no audible difference between the AE and SC unless your using very high end audio equipment. The downside of the AE is noticably worse drivers which cause it to be a BAD choice for anyone into gaming at all in my opinion. All considered, SC or GTXP seems like it would make a much better choice unless you intend to run two cards. The AE isnt a reliable card for other than music and movies.

The center channel is also used for some EAX games (Thief series, Max Payne, etc.)! But it's really no big deal, the phantom center created in a 4.1 system is perfectly adequate for games. But if you primarily listen to music on your computer, you definitely don't need the center channel.

Yes IMO it's worth getting nice speakers, especially when they're cranked up and you're immersed in quality sound. And yes there is a noticeable difference in sound quality between the Live! and the Audigy. In fact, on some sources the difference is startling. For example, the intro to Descent Freespace shocked me when I heard it on the Audigy compared to the Live!.

Like williamc said, I'm just saying you don't need to post the same thing twice in one thread, people will see it if you only post it once.

Cheers for all the input, the creative megaworks are a bit pricy about £300 I think. I dont think I want to spend quite that much but if they are a lot better than the Altec Lansing 641's then I might opt for them. Ok I really have no idea what sound card to get now, the only one I really know anything about is the Audigy, I still play games a lot and so would like things like EAX 2.0 support and so on. If anyone has any links to web sites I could find information about different sound cards on I would appreciate it.

Try the Logitech Z-560's with an Audigy Gamer card then. They're significantly cheaper than the Klipsh and Megaworks sets and sound almost as good.
