I'm a novice to networking. I just purchased the MN700
Wireless Base Station to network two desktops; one with
WindowsXP and second with Windows98SE. Both currently are
used to connect to Internet with dialup modem. Computer #1
will be connected to Base Station with Ethernet wire.
Computer #2 will use MN710 Wireless USB Adapter. I started
to install (reading instructions) and all the Steps
indicate that I should start by setting up my Internet
Broadband connection first. I don't have a Internet
Broadband connection yet. I have ordered one from
Earthlink but it won't be available for several weeks. Can
I set up my wired/wireless network without the Broadband
connection? Or should I just wait for a couple of weeks?
The instructions are not clear. What are the
negatives/positives of going ahead or waiting?

In all honesty, you "can" do a setup with dial-up, but it isn't supported.
You would need to put your MN-700 in access mode, use Internet Connection
sharing with a second Network Interface Card (NIC) in the machine to which
it is attached, and that machine needs to be on at all times to provide the
feed from the base station.

I would wait, then do the setup with your broadband. When you do, remember
to disable the second NIC in the main, sharing computer, disable the dial-up
modem, and remove the accounts on all the machines - including the entries
in your browser (assuming Internet Explorer) under Tools/Internet
Options/Connections.
