My dsl won\'t work on a different phone jack in my house

I have a dsl line. I normally have my modem and router in my home office. I am moving my office in my home and want to move my modem and router to a more centrally located spot in my house. When I plug everything in, the dsl light on the modem blinks but does not stay on, and the internet light never comes on. I put it back in the old location and it works fine.

I spoke with the phone company who couldn't really give me a straight answer. They mentioned that maybe the jack was bad....I have had a phone on that jack previously. (with cell phones now I don't even have a land line phone....to test it.)

Does anybody know anyway to get that jack to work without having the phone company come out to the tune of a hundred bucks?

you could open up the wall jack and see which pair of wires is used.

then check the other outlet and see if it uses the same pair
