I am using ORCAD to do schematics capture but their Layout program is
impossible to use. Can anyone suggest a SIMPLE PCB layout program. I am
doing small Audio boards with a few sockets and R's and C's etc. Nothing
fancy. I want to put down sockets and draw some lands.
Thanks for any help. Please email me!

Eagle from http://www.cadsoftusa.com/ (they have a free version)

With which you can create Gerber files and email them to....

http://www.sparkfun.com who will make you double-sided,
plated through boards with solder mask and white silkscreen
on both sides for $5 per square inch, one inch minimum.

Richard,
Thanks a lot. This program will not import ORCAD netlist and is about a
easy as ORCAD Layout. I am looking for a SIMPLE program where I can just
draw lands between pads like prototyping on Perf Board. Any ideas?

Thanks

You want to be able to import ORCAD netlists? The program at
http://www.expresspcb.com/ won't do that or other things you might
want to do, as it's only designed to make boards orderable from their
service, but it's about as simple and easy to use as you can get.

You didn't specify that as one of your requrements.
It would save everyone's time if you disclose ALL
the requirements up front.

Richard,
I am sorry. I thought it was implied when I said I was using ORCAD for
schematics capture. Eaglecad will not do a board layout unless you do
schematics capture in Eaglecad. I did not mean to waste anyone's time and I
am sincerely sorry if I wasted yours.

Thanks

I would have thought teh terms 'something simple' and 'imports OrCAD
netlists' were mutually exclusive !

Orcad Capture (Windows) can output EDIF netlist which Orcad PCB386 (DOS) can
use. I do it all the time. If you want PCB386 contact me.

Thanks for sharing that. That's one of the neatest things I've read in this
group for a while!

It looks like the $49 to register Eagle CAD is necessary if you want to be
able to use the library of parts.

Not in my experience. The freeware version comes with a reasonable
basic set of parts in its library, and I've had no trouble doing
schematics and layouts using them.

The only restrictions on the freeware version that I know of are the
size of the schematic and PCB, number of layers, and the
no-commercial-use rule.

Might Quickroute (british) do, dunno whether it is still around, nor
whether it still has the same name.

Kind regards
