I have a Thorens TD 318 that I have used for many years happily.
A few years ago, I had to store it, in the original packing, as I had no
place to set it up.
I am now in the position to use it again, unpacked it, hooked it up and no
power.
I'm hoping it is just he ac adapter gone bad, but that seems unlikely that
it would go bad sitting in storage. If it's the motor or switch, how much
of a hassle and cost would it be to fix versus getting a new turntable.

No power? Or no motion? I have a (much less exalted) turntable
here that I hadn't needed to use for maybe a year. But a customer
came in with some source on vinyl. I was worried for a moment. But
these beasts do sometimes just gum up and need a little encouragement.

Good point, no motion would be more accurate. But how is one to know if
power is being sent or received or if it is a cranky motor? I did manually
move the platter around once "power" was on, but that did not seem to do the
trick.
As I recall, this is a belt drive model. You should probably check
that the belt has not fallen off the platter and motor pulley. You
might be able to see this by lifting off the platter mat, or you might
have to remove the platter, check you owner's manual. If the turntable
has been moved around the house, it would also be a good idea to check
the arm balance and tracking setting.

Belt secure and all balancing and tracking is good.
The motor does not spin up when power is applied, so I don't know if power
is being delivered or if the motor or switch is shot.

I don't know if this turntable has a similar drive system to the TD-125. The
125 uses a Wien Bridge oscillator to drive the motor. When I had my unit in
storage for a couple of years, one of the large electrolytic capacitors
didn't form properly when I powered it up. The motor didn't turn, although I
did see that it was trying to. What I mean by this is that there was torque
on the motor, but it appeared to come from both the clockwise and
counterclockwise directions. The motor was electrically frozen, so to speak.
You might want to check the power supply components in your unit.

The LM324 ic would often fail on this model. A real good bet if you
ascertain power is being applied to the circuit board. Chuck
So I guess, bottom line, how do I know if power is being delivered??

Does anything light up? Can you use a voltmeter?

If you have to ask, then you probably should be taking it to a service tech
in the first place. That's what they're for after all.
