My wife took my Zire71 on a trip and it came back dead. She had let some of
her students play with it and they eventually handed it back saying it was
not working. She didn't ask them anything about it, just stuck it away,
confident that I would know what to do. But I don't! It does not turn on.
I can't do a soft reset, or a hard reset. I plugged it in direct, thinking
the battery may have just run out, but it would still not come on. It has
been in the charger for an hour or so and still will not start.

It could be broken.

So your wife gave a sensitive piece of electronics gear to some kids. A
while later they hand it back and just say it wasn't working. She happily
says OK and brings it home.
You actually married this woman?

If the screens not broke.......................try giving it more time in
the charger.

Thanks, that indeed was the problem! It actually took almost two hours of
charging before it would even turn on. Of course, it had reset, but that
was no problem after a synch. I still can't believe that she took mine
rather than hers, and then gave it to her 5th graders to play Bejeweled.
True, hers is only a IIIc, but that would be fine for her kids in any case.
Maybe I should give her mine and upgrade myself to new Zire or the T3!
