New wireless card not detecting available networks

Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario R3000. It did not hav a wireless card or antenna. I purchased and installed all. I uploaded the drivers and there are no issues(apparent) with the drivers.

I have a Broadcom g Network Adapter. Windows Zero Configuration is started and set to automatic. I reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults using netsh winsock reset catalog and I rebooted.

I am lost and don't know what else to check. Also, this machine doesn't have a wifi button that I can see but the card is enabled and allegedly on. Any ideas of where to go now?

I have been involved in another thread with a similar issue. The OP in that thread claims to have solved the issue by installing the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter.

Unfortunately the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter is intended for Windows 7 this is an XP machine. Is there honestly anyone on this forum. I am seriously trying to understand what the point of this forum is? If no one has a clue maybe a moderator could simply say, we don't have the skill and are also stumped.
