I have a Niles speaker switch and now I can't play my speakers through
it anymore. It's not cheap, so I'd like to determine it is in fact
defunct b/f getting a new one. How can I troubleshoout this?

First, check the wires, switches (on the Niles and your receiver), and
volume controls (on the Niles and your receiver) -- Make sure something
is actually playing.
If the above does not cure the problem, connect a pair of speakers
directly to the reciever and see if they play.
Generally, this sort of problem is due to improper wiring or operation.
