I'm wanting a 5.1 Soundcard to replace my old SB Live 1024 Value. I want it to be good for DVD, MP3 etc. Not as bothered abouting gaming, but good performance in that sector would be good.
My question is: What sound card shoudl I buy? I've been looking at the the Audigy and the SonicFury (re-boxed Santa Cruz) but am interested in others. Which do you guys reckon would be the best choice?

Phillips Acoustic Edge, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, or Herculees GTXP, or entry level pro card from Terratec. The field is wide open in the pro card area.

My personal pick is the GTXP.

this forum prefers the santa cruz boards but i would recommend the audigy. there are no stablility issues with the newest drivers and if you want the best gamer card its the one to pickup.

Unless they've updated their drivers since I last tried to install a couple months that's a load of bull. I tried installing the audigy on my 8kha+ no less than 15 times in a variety of different pci slots and none of them worked. Don't even try to claim it's a pebcak error.

For music I would recommend Philips Acoustic Edge. I have tried both Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Philips Acoustic Edge a while ago on my Klipsh speaker. I think Acoustic Egde sounds better than Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for music.

You mustve missed the thread I posted about the compaq drivers for the live and audigy cards, (unified drivers).. my audigy drivers are dated 3/18/02.

A VIA chipset, hello... You know better than to try a Creative Labs product on a VIA chipset board. Although most people don't have problems, the conflict rate is alarmingly high.

Right, at the time I didn't think it was as prevalent a problem and I assumed I would be one of the lucky ones. Actually I was because to me the TBSC sounds better :)

Yes it is the complete cd available off of compaqs ftp, the driver portion is available elsewhere and I'd be pleased to send it to anyone who requests it.

I'd take you up on it except I don't have the card anymore.
