I have posted this question on other network-forums before this...because i ASSUMED that my problem was caused by my network configuration. Now..however..i'm not too sure about that anymore...so i post it here again.
My question is: what could possibly be a good explanation for the fact that Quake3 runs pretty smoothly (good in fact)on one of my 3 pc's when i'm in singleplayer-mode...but starts to st.st.stutter and j.j.j.jerk (both sound and video) when i play multiplayer??
Tips: its NOT the connection.,...because the ping is good...and when i play on my own server that's right next to it -connected by 100 Mbit ethernet- i have the same problem as on the internet-servers.
It's NOT the Ethernet-card...because i replaced it, switched PCI-slots and reinstalled drivers..with no result.
It's NOT the (lack of) power of the VGA-card or CPU...because that would result in a crappy SINGLEplay as well....would'nt it?
It's NOT the server itself...because it does'nt matter on what server i play...it's ALWAYS crappy.
It's NOT the specific port on my 100 Mbit (full duplex)switch...because i switched those too...with no result.
It's NOT a conflict of any kind that's visible in the configuration-manager...because it says "there are no conflicts" and "this device works properly".
It's NOT the Q3 keycode..because i replaced that one too...without any result.
Can anybody provide my with some usefull suggestions please??

I would check the NIC again because it obiviously sounds like it is something with the machine itself. have you tried to test any other network capabilities? (ie. transfering files locally, doing a trace route to the servers you are playing on). Since you are having issues locally with the game I would think that you would have issues with doing anything with that computer over your network...

Change your PC?!! No, but seriously, sometimes formating Windows can do miracles...

uh?... Windows XP. Or a good version of Linux that runs games... (I don'T know anything abour Linux) I don't beleive your problem is hardware and that formating, changing your os, will fix your problem. You should check if it's worth it though. If you have an older machine, it's not a good idea to change the OS to a more demanding one.
