Kindle fire and wifi

Another option would be using a cell phone. Some will allow you to configure the phone as a wifi/cellular bridge. First the phone is configured as a wifi hotspot. You then connect the kindle as a client to that hotspot. Finally, the phone routes the request over the cellular network as data, not voice, and up to the Internet. But both your phone and data plan have to support it. If you have a laptop, you can also get a cellular modem (e.g., Cricket) that basically does the same thing.
