If go into devices manager and remove my bus master ide controller. If I shut down will the system find it again? Someone told me this was a good way of sorting out an IDE problem but seems rather scary to me.

Don't fear I do that all the time when messing with hard drives that keep bitching at me, although I can't say that usually solves the problem.

Bassically once you reboot it will just return like you never did anything. Windows does this automatically when you first install it so if there wasnt a problem then then there wont be a problem now.

it will automaticaly find it again and it has the potential to fix your problem. dont worry it cant hurt anything all it does is reinstall the driver basicaly.
