Checking CD Roms at Best Buy last night, the rep told my the best CD-RW on the market is Plextor. Checking this web page, it did not stack up to Asus or Lite-On. Is Plextor worth all the extra money?

Plextor is really the cream of the crop when it comes to CD writers. However, their prices are very high, so if you were looking for something economical, you're much better off with a Lite-on. Lite-ons are very reliable drives, and carry excellent price tags.

Why do you say go for an "ASUS CD-RW model A"?

Because the ASUS model A drives support all write modes, including correct EFM encoding. The same cannot be said for any Plextor drive.
