Ram not recognized windows 7 laptop

I have a 32-bit lenovo laptop, and i installed a 4gb ram memory into but windows doesnt recognise it and it wont let me get past the post.

Take the module out and instal your old memory.
Go to the webside download and flash the newest bios version for your laptop.
Try again. If that fails then try to return the memory and get a one from the supported list.

Laptops tend to be more "fussy" when it comes to memory compatability.
1) Did the new ram have the same spec (ie Spped, CL ratings, voltage) as the old ram.
2) You didn't specify the Model of your laptop, or the Make/model of your new ram, so more difficualt to help

SOME older laptops only allowed upto 2 gigs of ram.

do u have a exact link to the bios update, wouldnt wanna mess tht up
yh i saw tht after i bought the ram im hoping i can make it work,a lot cheaper than shipping it back.
