Hi

In the Control panel / Display / Power tab it has a "Light (car)" option.
What does this do?

I don't have a car kit but I assume it's supposed to let you set the
backlight if you put it in a holder.
How does the phone know?. I'd like to be able to set the screen light to
"On" if it's being charged, but this doesn't seem to be an option. If I put
it in the charging / link cradle the backlight still goes out even with car
set to on. Is there another setting somewhere?

Regards

Don't know Jeff but the light stays on with mine plugged in to the power
calbe in the car. I use a B/T car kit.

Thanks for that Martin. I have a bluetooth car kit but just leave it in my
pocket not charging.

It's when I have it in my speaker phone holder that it'd be useful to have
the light on as I use it for notes / data a lot.

Whent the phone is connected to a SE car kit - in my case HCA20 - the
phone setects it. After a short time out, the phone's display dims to
the level determined by the car (dimm) level. when the phone is
active, eg making a call, the car(full) level is displayed. The
car(dim) is important as you don't want it on 100% when idle as it
lights up the whole car interior at night!!!

Any idea what in the SE car kit triggers this behaviour, i.e. is there a
special pin in connector which tells the phone it's in a SE car kit or is
it voltage driven or something else?

I asked SE but they just said it isn't possible to set the backlight to
always on when connected to a charger. However if you can do it in a car
holder it must be possible elsewhere, by replicating the same conditions.
(I'll give them another try.)

I presume it is to do with signals sent our by various SE units. If
you place a phone in the CSS-25 charger, the phone will tell you its
in a CSS-25!! I can only presume there are pin outs from the car kit
which trigger the phone. Tyr doing a google for SE pin outs....
