Hey all,
Was wondering if I could get some opinions on the various multi FX
processors for guitar. I've been an analog junkie for the past 10 years but
would like to dip my toes into what the current technologies offer for my
instrument. Also an important personal note: I like to be able to get REALLY
WEIRD SOUNDS! I know there's the TC Electronics G Major & G Force, the
Lexicon MPX G2 and ??? - what else? Are they really any good? Thanks in
advance for the help.

I really haven't heard a great "do-it-all" box yet. They seem to break down
into two categories...ones that do clean sounds really well, and ones that
do grungy sounds really well. The POD is great for clean sound but not
grunge for example. The TC stuff is almost pristine in clean. In fact I
don't think it even has distortion as an effect. Are you just wanting a
straight effect or an amp simulator too? If you're going to do all the
grunge stuff with other pedals and or your amp you can't go wrong with the
TC stuff.

Try a Roland VG8. They are really a 6 way effects unit, not a guitar
synth. Don't get the later VG88, as while it has more algorithms they are
rather politer and less freaky.

For really weird sounds, but still not being a synth, it can't be beat.

Ah, the SE70. Mine was borrowed and burnt in a car.

People want silly money for them now for something so old, £350+. Found
out when I tried to replace it. Still the best leslie sim roland ever did.
And 12 pitch shifters with a mode with a huge crossfade that makes
everything sound reversed.

Go all the way and run them from your laptop:

It even emulates your favorite vintage stompboxes (or so they claim).

You can do cool stuff with digital and it's very practical, but I
still think that analog stompboxes have more personality, and you can
combine them in original ways.

Checking ebay they are going for a lot less than that...
