need help looking for phonograph / record player

Hello, I was wondering if anyone out there could help me locate a
record player / phonograph. I saw a review not too long ago about a
wireless gadget you would place at the begining of the album and it
would work its way around the record playing the music through its own
little speaker. It would look like a little car "driving" through the
grooves of the record. It would be a cool conversation piece if I had
one. Any help would be appreciated...thank you!

There were a couple of devices like this in the 1980s; one of them looked
like a small Volkwagen microbus. It won a "Golden Turkey" award from Hi-Fi
News magazine.

In the 1980s, these were available from Oriental Trading Company. They
are probably valuable collectors items now. Isn't it a weird world?

You might try asking Archie McPhee in Seattle. If they are still made,
the McPhee buyers will know.

Unless it has a whole lot of memory, it has to go around at the same
velocity (exactly) as the linear velocity of the stylus relative to the disk.

Somehow I can't see something as large as a toy VW bus running around
a circular track 11-1/2 inches in diameter, making 1.8 circuits every
second and not flying off. Have I missed something in the description?

WFMU radio sent one out as a bonus item for a contributing, but they
expressly called it a "vinyl killer." It's kinda fun though if you have
an old worn-out LP to run it around.

Not at all. It plays the record. Otherwise, what would be the point of putting

Manufacturer 'Tamco', made in Japan, ceramic cartridge mini-VW bus, 33
1/3 only (no speed switch to do 45's), operates on one 9V battery.

Mine's gold, I've seen other other colors available (on Ebay.)

A very amusing (or annoying, depending on my mood) WTF to pull out for
clients every now and then. Of note, the doppler (i.e. Leslie) effect
is very pronounced as it spins around your record. 'Enhances' any
record!

I vaguely remember seeing one in a hifi magazine (using an RF
transmitter to receive the LP on an FM stereo receiver, and I couldn't
figure out (among other things) how it knew how to slow down its
linear speed to keep the angular velocity the same as it followed the
groove [a neat trick in itself] toward the center of the record. Or
did it just keep (roughly) the same linear speed throughout,
increasing the pitch as it goes closer in?
